EAC Softball Sweeps South Mountain in Home Doubleheader
The Eastern Arizona College softball team secured a pair of home victories on Thursday, defeating South Mountain Community College 15–10 and 9–5 to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Game 1 – Win 15–10
Eastern Arizona's offense set the tone early, producing timely hits throughout a high-scoring opener.
Gabriella Bonilla led the Gila Monsters with a perfect 3-for-3 effort, driving in three and scoring three times. Analise Montiel added 3 runs, 2 hits, and 1 RBI, while Kaylisa Nakoa contributed 3 RBI, 3 hits, and 2 runs to help fuel the attack.
Additional RBI came from Vanessa Gavigan, Hunter Jackson, and Jessica Szelenyi, who recorded three RBI in the win. In the circle, Destanee Nez worked the opening 2 innings with 3 strikeouts, and Alexis Guzman closed out the final 5 innings, allowing just 2 earned runs while striking out four to earn the win.
Game 2
EAC carried its momentum into Game 2, building an early lead and maintaining control throughout.
Analise Montiel delivered the standout performance of the contest, posting 2 hits and a game-high 5 RBI. Jessica Szelenyi and Kaylisa Nakoa each scored two runs to support the offensive effort.
Destanee Nez earned the complete-game win, working all 7 innings with 11 strikeouts, allowing just 3 earned runs on 10 hits and 1 walk.
